   I'm just wondering how I would do this, as the theme I use has many areas of transparency, which prevents the album title and description being easily visible.

   You can change the color of text to make it easier to be read. For instance:
   

   HTML:

   .itemGallery .infoAlbum a, .itemGallery .infoAlbum span, .itemGallery .infoAlbum div {
   color: {HEX_YOU_WANT} !important;
