In case you did not know how the XF2 XenGallery is going on, I have posted a post here: http://www.sonnb.com/threads/what-happens-when-xf-2-0-is-out.1146/page-8#post-6926

As you might see there, I will not able to migrate all the features from XF1 XenGallery to XF2 XenGallery because of the following reasons:

    - There are too many features and those are preventing me from doing the XF2 XenGallery. Took too much of workload and headeach.
    - Lot of features are cool in the past but now need to be rework.
    - Some were included in XF2 and must be integrated (tags...)

I make this thread is to hear your voices, your votes for which features you need the most to see in XF2 XenGallery. This will help me to drive it into right direction and has clear roadmap for this add-on.

    I have created a survey here: https://forms.gle/dCeVBg4eXUpdDUdu5

Please help me by fill it out. I will later list the features in priority based on the number of votes.

This clown posted here and admitted he "vanished" after I called him out publically for nearly 1/2 a year. He 100% lied about releasing a new version to support XF2 for over 4 years. Then he lies in a response to my review of his add-on here about vanishing. Very sad he left everyone hanging for 4 years, and only came out of the woodwork because I called him out for 6 months. It's still more of the same lies and stringing people along.

@sonnb why not just retire the product? Anyone still using your Media gallery is running an EOL software at this point. Your post above doesn't really explain anything about what your plans are and is vague. Why not just tell everyone you have no intention on creating a version for XF 2.1 because it's not profitable enough and too time-consuming?

Unless you plan on releasing XF3 XenGallery that supports Xenforo 2.1, all this is just a waste of time. People should not run forums that are on an unsupported, EOL software.

P.S. It's almost been another 2 months and will soon be four years since you spoke about Xengallery 3

Thanks Mike for the concern. I suppose that you already migrated to XF2 and no longer use the XF1 version of XenGallery. However we still have users who using XF1 and requests for for the fix. There is no relation between bug fixing for the old version and the development of the new version. You can easily find on the Google ton of forums still on XF1.

Ignore ActorMike. He is always complaining but does not use the gallery anymore. He will come back as soon as a XF2 Gallery is available again ;)

I find it a great idea to ask the community what we would like to have in the new XenGallery version. Who else is doing this? So we should support it instead of complaining again ;)

Your gallery is still the "gold standard".

Xengallery is the benchmark. Since over 7 years!

Bear this in mind. Xenforo was not able within the last seven years to get even close to your gallery plug-in with their own Media Gallery. And they have a lot more resources available for that and also more time.

The question is only how to proceed with this plug-in for XF2.x.

I assume that you will provide an importer so that everybody who is using now the newest Xenforo media gallery even if he uses the old Xenforo media gallery for XF 1.5x he will be able to import it without losing anything into your new Xengallery. So this importer is on everybodies wishlist.

    Mandatory Features

What I liked a lot in the old version was the inclusion of the EXIF data combined with the camera database and lens database. EXIF data is of course mandatory (all EXIF data). But the combination was very interesting and for me a huge selling point

So if a photographer sees some pictures he's getting curious with what kind of camera and lens this was taken. He clicks on it and then he could see/make a research in the gallery for all other images made with the same kind of camera and lens combination.

This is a killer feature for photographers. If you add 4-5 fields for affiliate links to that, then even it is possible to make money with it. Every admin loves to make money.

The other feature which is in my view very important is the possibility to organise, schedule and announce easily competitions.

Either manually just like that or on a monthly basis with or without prices/sponsors, automatic deadlines (closing) and automatic starting dates etc.

This is a lot more tricky because you have to think about how users can rate for this competition to avoid misuse. It has also to be anonymioulsy otherwise users are afraid to give a bad vote on a photo because they know the other user and they don't want to tell them that they don't like the image.

The way how the images are presented like several images at the same time or if you click on one image alone is of course also important for photographs. It should just look nice. More like a real gallery and not like Facebook or Flickr.

In your old software you had in the user profile also some of the images of the gallery which was a great idea. This is like a business card for the users with their best photos.

If there's any possibility technically So that the users can use images with one click out of their albums in the forum discussions this would also help a lot.

I had in the past communities in which the whole discussion was either in the gallery itself or in the forums. But never both at the same time. So depending on the behavior of the specific community one is better than the other. This is why it is a good idea to have both options available.

Make XenGallery easy to use also for Smartphone users. Images from Smartphones are always too big and the Smartphone users do not know and do not care how to make an images smaller before uploading it somewhere. So I would recommend a code which is reducing the filesize significantly while the images are uploaded without sacrifying too much on the image quality.

Always keep the EXIF data and make the database available again to search for specific Smartphone and camera models. Even for specific lenses or photos shot at ISO 1600 or with lens aperture of i.e. F1.4 etc.

Now that the XF2.2 beta is out, would it be worth using the new much more capable lightbox for your version?

Are you still working on your version?

XF just updated the core XF lightbox in 2.2 to a much better one than the one they shipped 2.0 and 2.1 with

I have just looked into that. Seems to be an improved layout of what we are having with XenGallery. I believe we could somehow use that to unify the user experience.

    Yeah, sounds good.

So far it’s a really nice lightbox experience.

It’s still missing a lot of the functionality that your version brings to the table though.

@Marilynfox You need to use this https://xenforo.com/solutions/#xfmg

This software is abandonware. The author has disappeared repeatedly and made false promises for years.

You still falling for his BS? LOL
